Ohio YMCAs Healthy Living Collaborative

In effort to support Ohio YMCAs’ partnerships with payors, providers, and employers, the Ohio Alliance of YMCAs created a managed service organization called the Ohio Healthy Living Collaborative.  The Collaborative is a separate nonprofit corporation, with an independent board of directors.

The Collaborative’s initial effort was to transition YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program contracts before YMCA of USA’s MSO ceased operations in May 2019.  In that transition process, the Collaborative identified and contracted with a third party to provide data management and payment services for DPP.

While DPP was the MSO’s first line of business, the Ohio Alliance created the Collaborative to support the Ys in a much broader effort to grow and strengthen healthcare partnerships.  The Collaborative currently negotiates on behalf of Ohio YMCAs with payors such as Optum and Tivity.  Working with Ohio YMCAs, the Collaborative also is working to identify a statewide membership product, which will include an ability to scale a sustainable business model.  Following finalizing product details, the Collaborative will work with payors, providers, and employers to scale the program.

The Collaborative supports its work with fees collected from a select few sustaining local YMCAs.  Additionally, as part of the business model for new products, the Collaborative will include any costs necessary to sustain its work.
